First sight of Statue of Liberty

It's our first day in New York City today, after we've been to Washington DC and Philadelphia in the past three days on our tour to the east coast area.

As long as I heard about New York City, the first thing came to my mind was the Statue of Liberty, which is a definite symbol of this great city.So I'm quite excited to visit this well-known statue.

We took a ferry to the Liberty Island from New Jersey, people on the ferry cheered up when the Statue of Liberty became larger and clearer to us. All kinds of cameras and cellphones were aiming to the great statue as the boat getting close.

Then we finally landed on the Liberty Island, the port was at the back of the statue. It was a special position as I never saw a picture taken from the back of the statue.

The statue is located in the center of the island, we walked around the island and looked up to the statue, took photos with many creative poses.

It didn't take too long for the whole visit on the island, but the feeling at the foot of Statue of Liberty was so great. I think the statue is not only famous for  its huge size or beautiful appearance or the golden location, but also the symbolic meaning lies in the huge statue--liberty.

Liberty is the foundation of a stable society, many people in history have pursued the liberty through their whole lives. We should be thankful to them who had contributed their time or even lives for the liberty rights that we can have nowadays. So I think the statue is more than just a symbol of American, but also a memorial building to the people who had done something to the liberty rights of human-beings.

A visit to Washington

We have been in Washington for two days and we are leaving for other cities,we had great fun and learn a lot.
Washington is the capital of the United States, the atmosphere of politic is all around us.We visited the memorials of many respetful residents. It was their great effort to the nation that shaped their great images. There are also some memorials about Wolrd War two,the Vietnam war and so on.Fortunately we met an old soldier who had gonee through the war.Although it happened sixties years ago,the memory is still remarkable. At last,he pointed out that the peace is better, which impressed me.The brave soldier he is,the scar of the war on him is unforgotten.
Also,we visited the space museum and the natural museum, actually, there are many museums so we have many options. They are designed well and reserved intact.Through the museums, not only will we see the rare things,we also get familiar with them.
All in all,we have finished our tour in Washington,we had unforgotten memories here, wish us good luck in the following days!

Hello to all!

Hi everybody!!
Finally in the blog:-). Im not sure if this will work because it was confusing to me to get in here. First i will introduce myself. I know most of you knew me already but for those who did not know me. This is Irene Lohre. The wife of Michael Lohre. I came from Philippines and been here in United States since last March 13th, 2012 and we got married last March 17th, 2013 so it over a year now. I have 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Quiet a big family! All of them are in the Philippines.
I enjoyed living here in America. I love the weather change :-). My husband and I are living happily together since we got married :-). In Philippines, i finished a degree of BACHELOR OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION or elementary teacher but i haven't use my profession yet. I am working now in Willow Brook Assisted living. This type of job is helping elders or assisting them in all type of care that they need personally. Its kind of tough job but i love it because God gave me a heart to love old people who are almost in the end of their life. This is my very first job here in America and so thankful to God about it.
It was very nice for being a part of this program since last year. I enjoyed being with you guys in some activities here in Ohio. Thanks a lot for being a very good group! You are all the BEST!
Hope you guys are enjoying your trip there in East Cost and learned a lot of things after.
Have fun in your time there and see you in a future. God bless!!

All Best,
IRENE LOHRE

Hi

Hello, everyone!Nice to meet you, where you are from.I'm a student majoring in

mathematics.Perhaps my interest is wider, but I don't plan to say too much about

it.I come from Luoyang,an ancient city with brilliant history and sceneries. It

has been the capital city for more than 1500 years with a large number of places

of interest.Delay of the plane is actually annoying, but we're lucky to meet

Mike,Hans and other teachers.I believe we'll enjoy ourselves in July.

Days in Columbus

The farewell party was over tonight. We are leaving for Washington tomorrow.
It is my first time in this fabulous country; Columbus is the first home I had in USA. Two weeks passed so quickly, while the memories are still so fresh and cherished to me.
I still remembered the evening when I landed in Chicago, the first impression of America was so neat and clean. Then I flew to Columbus, it was almost 11:30 pm, Mike and his wife Irene, had been waited for me for more than an hour at the airport, but they still felt so excited to see me, I was quite moved by their hospitality.
The following days in Columbus are like fantasy dreams, everyday was so fresh to me, I saw and experienced a lot of American styles in this typical American city, the cheap clothes and food, the enthusiastic residents, the polite drivers, the well designed houses, and even many things made in China… which makes my life here much easier.
We live in Jones Tower of Ohio State University, the campus is big and beautiful, combined with old shaped architecture and modern teaching facilities.
I am also excited to the see the teachers and students I met in Wuhan University, they took me to many special places in Columbus like Museums, half-priced book store, delicious food, and even bar. We always say that the world is becoming smaller, this time I deeply felt that saying as we could meet each other again despite of the separation by the Pacific Ocean.
Life in Columbus is really cozy and comfortable, even in the hottest month, the weather is bearable, and there are many restaurants and shops for all the daily things we need, not too much traffic, not too many crowded buildings… the river is clean and flow through one side of the city, the sky is always blue in the sunny days, the air is fresh, the pace of life is not strength or nervous at all. I’ll really miss the city.
To some extent, farewell party is not for farewell, it’s just the ending of training in OSU, the friendship is not farewell, it’s just the beginning, I want to thank all the teachers, friends and students who made this program better, I do think our friendship will not end.
Washington, New York, Boston, Philadelphia! We are coming!

THE LAST DAY IN OHIO

I've never been to a church before,so even today it is a modern one, I could still feel the excitement deep in my heart, especially when the opening songs were sung around, though I am not a Christian, my tears almost burst out(btw, their songs were AMAZING! I strongly recommend the Blessed Be Your Name! You don't need to believe in God to feel the power in it!)
I have been here for like 12 days I guess and the place here sort of has become a part of my life. It is never easy to say goodbye when there is so much left to miss, nice people, gorgeous scenery, all kinds of food(still gotta say some of them taste really weird.....) and those wonderful time we spent together. But I suppose that is what life is all about-we meet, then we leave for the next reunion.
See you my dearest friends! It's really nice to meet you guys here!Thank you all!

The farewell party

Tonight we held a farewell party which we met all people we have met these weeks.I fell so sad that we will leave tomorrow,in these short times,we have forged a deep friendship. Both of them have their own features, which most impressed me is the storyteller and I admire he knows so much things among history, arthitecture and geography.
I like travelling because in travelling I can enrich my experience and know the customs of different horizons. Thanks god I know all of you,I'm happy to know you but I'm sad we will leave this city.I hope we can meet in the feature.

Before we leave

Time flies we will leave tomorrow!Instead of happy I feel so sad.In this two weekends,I fell in love with the city.I love the blue sky here,I love the campus, the grass, the sunshine, the wind, and the most important is the people here.Everyone here is so friendly that I was much impressed by them,I feel the friendness between people, and I will never worry about the traffic, because the car will stop before you.
I agree with what Mike said today,in this two weeks we live in the dormitory just like live in our home, but tomorrow we will leave Ohio,we will leave in the hotel and we are more like the tourists.Thank s all of you,I will cherish the memorize that we were in Ohio.

A Meeting with Professor

Yesterday Suzy arranged our meeting with the professor in Electronic Engineering. At first I felt it a pity that I couldn’t see the famous astronaut. However, it proved valuable to have a meeting with professors and graduate in my major. These Science and Engineering professors were very different from the Literature teachers that taught us these days. Our teachers such as Suzy, Bill and Rick, are all very mild and considerate. Unlike them, Professor Anderson, whom we met yesterday, gave me an impression of a capable and efficient person. She showed us almost all the laboratories in the building and demonstrated some experiments.

It was an automatic robot in the left picture.

I was very impressed and felt it was time for me to start promoting myself and make full preparations for my future study after my graduation.

Finally,I visited the animal shelter in Columbus.

Thank you!Eric!
Today is Friday,it's a dramatic day. Before beginning my blog,I should apologize to Mike,Susy,Hanz and Eric and all the friends that in this program first.I didn't control my emotion very well and it made very bad influnce on everyone.Sorry!

Finally,Eric(one of the oldest and most handsome vampire in TRUE BLOOD) drove me to the Franklin animal shelter and he took a picture for me .
this is the front desk and the whole shelter is 48000 square. It's unbelieveble.

some tips when adopting a dog

for dogs to do sterilization which means they can't reproduce anymore

to keep dogs away from bad smell

the washer to wash the blanket,it just broke a few days ago

an adoption dog,it has little room to move

this is the place the dog have their own mark

small dogs always keep barking

Eric told me not to put your fingers in front of the dog's eyes,it is very rude.

it is used to test if the dog is aggressive when eating

it means the dog already had a walk in the morning

the place for dogs to run and to social contact with others

ID

a very good gift shop for animals,I bought a calendar

We really had a very wonderful time there and I can't wait to record all of this.Thank you everyone. And think about the animal right in China. If you want to get a dog as a pet or something like that,go to the local animal shelter and take one home! They need your help!

first and the best summer ever

These days, I've been chat with some of the teachers about what I've seen and what I've wondered about the American life. Their answers did solve my confusion, at the same time add something new that puzzled me still. America is similar to  the one I've learned from media, TV programmes and scripts before, but is more complex and amazing than that.
It's a lot of sadness overwhelming from my heart every time I heard a teacher said: Oh, when will I see you guys again?... Ahh, right, at the farewell party. Actually I've heard about it 3 times from Rich, Brianna and Suzy. That's a heart-breaking moment to me. I wish I could enjoy more weeks with all of you.
The modern dance in the theatre, the picnic along the lakeside, even the psychology class seemed incredible due to the approaching departure... However, it is not the right time to say goodbye.
Stop being sensitive. Move on instead.
That's one of the traits you've taught me.

Ohio,a place of memory

I forget to mention that last week we've been to the wexner center for the arts.Well, that's true, when we just find there are only three artists over there, with abstract ideas(maybe a little crazy to me).Anyhow, the paintings there looks just like the real one.
And the railway museum, which leads to a better understanding of slaves in the old days and the hard time they had been suffered, which means a lot to me to treasure my life this day.
The next week begins when I go to the Easton Town Center, well,I bought much cosmetic for my mom.It cost me a lot of money and then,we go to the herbon the next day.Herbon is just like a small village, but it has its own city council. And I have to emphasis that the local business is still strong. That's amazing, isn't?
A garage of Mr and Ms White's
Above is a picture of the garage of Mr and Ms White's,they have a big farmland and the crops grow quite well. The whites are kind persons, they gave us a ride in the farmland. Our classmates said their farmland is just like in Hollywood movie.

The Ohio State Auditor

The Ohio State Auditor is another place that amazed me,you know,it is quite unbelievable just seeing the city president or the counting assistant just stand in front of you and tell you the things about America policy.(www.ohiostatehouse.org)
Thanks to Suzy Sarwark,I have the chance to get in to both economic class and electronic engineering. As a student whose major is computer science and information security,it is difficult to find out which major is my final choice when I wanna to prepare for my future master degree in America.Suzy is very helpful.
Maybe the last two days I will add something to this blog or maybe not-it just depends on if we had a network. But I will push one of my favorite photos here.Good night~

Sherry at the Columbus Zoo

More experience,more opportunities

Time flies as we have spent almost 2 weeks in OSU,and everyday we experienced a lot,from the campus to a zoo,outlets to Cincinnati...What impressed me most is that the amount of chances your have mainly decides how you succeed in many things.
Each time we have a task or a opportunity to talk with people,some choose to be brave and announce opinions,but others are unwilling to open their mouth.Both kinds of people make their own choice and its not responsible to judge what is right.However,having been in the U.S such a long time,we should what we need to do.
As we all knows,communication is a irreplaceable method to achieve goals in the modern society.Therefore,given wonderful opportunities in the country,try to speak out what you want and what you need.If not,whats the difference between China and the U.S regardless of better facilities and something outside?
We always complain about education in China for unfair chances,less freedom of speak,no communication between teachers and student.In the case,why not be passionate to seize the chance?To make you more competitive and multiskilled,please abolish traditional way in China even just a few days during where we visit and appreciate.
We ordinarily wants to do something different,which resemble my attending to microeconomics here.Its absolutely a fabulous class Im eager to so I talked to the teacher who is also from Wuhan university for a long time in terms of campus life or abroad experience.We surely wants to do something unique,which is like my friends Xie Shengao and some girls bravely talked to John Glenn,who is the first American to go into the space,and took a photo with him.What a wonderful photo it is!
Most of us have dreams,however we may cant find a opportunity to achieve it.When it comes to the U.S,I am wandering what it is that give the country more success.Luckily,I at least know one aspect of the answer:the have more experience,which results in more opportunity they can get.

So,go on our journey and seek for more experience and more opportunities.probably,it cant help you as soon as you get it.But be patient,its certainly your precious all the time.

He made my day!

Actually, I have never heard of the name of John Glenn till today.

John Herschel Glenn, Jr. (born July 18, 1921) is a retired United States Marine Corpspilot, astronaut, and United States senator. He was the first American to orbit the Earth and the fifth person in space. He flew theFriendship 7 mission on February 20, 1962. In 1965, Glenn retired from the military and resigned from NASA so he could be eligible to stand for election to public office. As a member of the Democratic Party he was elected to represent Ohio in the U.S. Senate from 1974 to 1999.
He is such a nice and kind person that when he came from his fancy workplace, he showed nothing but humbleness. We chatted like friends, even though I was kind of nervous at that time. I could hear that my voice is trembling which is so embarrasing.
There is a little trouble uploading the picture that catches our smiles. So everyone is free to come to me to see it. Though I am pretty sure that nobody is gonna come.
Anyway, maybe a small thing that touches our heart can make a day. A thing that offend others can destroy their whole day, so try to be gentle to everyone. I am still learning that. Above all, looking forward to the east coast trip!

Who walked with me is more important than I want to reach.

Time flying,we have spent almost two weeks in this beautiful city, where there is beautiful sunrise, delicious food, interesting class, inspiring museum and friendly people.Today at lunchtime,Susy said she would miss all of us and she would go to Wuhan University next summer. At that time,I realized we would leave here after two days.Maybe I will never come back again, but I will always remenber this wonderful experience and remenber Mike,Hans,Susy,my dear classmates and so on.Who walked with me is more important than I want to reach. So I will recall your bubbling laughter with a slight smile,

First week in Columbus

  • Days has passed and we had already spend our day in Columbus for a week, but it still like the first day when we got to OHIO.Here are some of the memories I have to share with you.
  • Mike and Irene
We went to Mike's house to eat dinner and Mike's friends plays guitar for us.They are very talented.Mike's house is on the street and it is a really beautiful house.I took many pictures but some pictures are not in my camera. Here is a picture of Mike and his wife,Irene.

  • We went to the Department of Recreational Sports facilities, which is a good place for us to do sports. The equipment there is nothing to find fault with.

Student Union

  • And we go to the Student Union to get our BUCK-I-D cards. This is a picture of the Student Union,a huge building for students to study.

We had our lunch at Columbus Commons, where many trucks are there, with different kinds of food.We had a good time.

Lovely penguins
  • Columbus zoo is another place that interest me most,

especially when I send all the photos of animals to my young cousin. The 7-year-old girl is quite interested in it.And I bought her a postcard.

  • Happy time always passed quickly, maybe I will show you the next page of my next week's journey.

the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum

The Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum is an offshoot of the American Motorcyclist Association that recognizes individuals who have contributed to motorcycle sport, motorcycle construction and motorcycling in general. It displays motorcycles and riding gear and memoribilia. The museum is located in Pickerington, a suburb of Columbus, Ohio, United States.
In this museum, I saw my favorite motorcycle in the movie < Terminator 2>,  it's really cool.
To me, the most interesting thing is that we all sat on the motor and pose. That's really a amazing tour.

Mike is really handsome and he looked like the T-800 in the Terminator.
And if you do not come with us, you can click http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/ , I promise you guys will enjoy the world of motorcycle !

Exercising in America

We have been to the OSU for about two weeks, the blue sky,the wonderful scenery, the comfortable environment really attract us.The most attraction in my opinion is the stadium for sports,it is said to poccess best facilities in the US.
Almost everday I go to the RPAC with some students for exercising,I just cant imagine how fantastic it is.Excellent facilities, neat court, enough room make us excited. You will never get bored because you have so many choices,I think it is a healthy way to keep fit, maybe I will hold on to it after I return to my home.
Another thing that I find interesting is that you can find any sports suit almost anywhere around us.Whatever the mall is big or small, you will find clothes which is suitable for sports. It is not difficult to find people running in the street. It is obvious that people have regarded exercising as a part of the normal life,we are supposed to learn about this motion.
I hope more and more students take part in exercising and enjoy the happiness of sports!

To stay here, to feel it

It has been the 10th day in America. During these days, the full schedule made me a bit tired but at the same time gave me a new understanding on this country full of freedom. In the past, I read about it from the words on the screen or paper, but experiences of these days provided me with opportunities to feel the country with my body and mind.

America in my mind used to be very modern and in fast tempo. However, maybe because of the atmosphere of the city we stay, I really feel at ease when I am bathed in the sunshine in the morning, when I look outside from the van, when I see smile on the face of friendly strangers. Greetings can be received through the whole day whenever and wherever I look into others’ eyes. What impresses me most is that if I want to cross the street, I should only press the button on the roadside, and then I can feel free to go. Cars will always stop and let the passengers go first as long as they have stepped on the road; even it is not the proper time.

Not only do those strangers treat us well, but also teachers here are very nice. Mike arrange almost everything for us though he himself has a lot of stuff in his family too. Everyday he takes care of us, leads us to get in touch with new things and learn knowledge in a relaxed manner. Suzie is an elegant lady who always wears a smile on her face. Her patience really impressed me a lot. With plump body and cute face, Hans is just like Winnie the Pooh. He is a humorous guy who can speak fluent Chinese. And there are also many other teachers enjoyed happy time with us.

BTW, I really love kids here, they are so cute. o(v)o~

Life in the OSU

The first week in the United States, everything is a new experience for me.In fact, such a different culture is really charming and attractive.

We went to a baseball game last week.Baseball is very popular in the United States. But for the chinese, we are not really familiar with this sport. However, I'was impressed by this amusing experience.

The baseball field is very large, audiencs sat around and watched the game.Eating a variety of snacks seems integral
to enjoy the baseball game,so we tried a lot of interesting food.People  chatted on the seat and cheered for a nice hit. It's a great leisure time to stay with family and friends.

The most memorable thing in OSU is that people and animals can live in harmony and joy. This reminds me of the time at the Wuhan University.
There are lots of lovelsquirrels in the OSU.Squirrels like to live in tall old tree branches in the nest.If we wander around the college in the morning,We can often find squirrels running on the lawn or shuttle in the tree.

The squirrel eat of time, they often straight body, holding to their mouth with the forepaws to pick-mouth delivery.

The days in America

Blue sky, exotic architecture, gorgeous town and native American that is my first impression for the USA.But I can't just make sure that appearance is exact the American look.As Justin says today that you can't judge American by who are studying in China,I should correct my words to say that OSU is abosulately beautiful place,I enjoy the life here and I really love this town.
The days in America have gone half of our plans,we will leave the ohio state soon, time flying.During these days,I have tried many new things which make my life colorful and broaden my horizons.
I have played baseball here,in my turn to hit the ball,my heart beated faster, after I hit it,running as fast as I could with screaming and laughing is the most interesting way I enjoyed that game.Actually,I am not good at baseball games, and I will have few chances to play that ball game in China, but I will never forget what it brings to me.
I have tried all kinds of food here.America is a multicultural country,so it is easy to find delicious food from other country.Dishes here is really diferent from China, fried food and cold water are not usual chinese eating style. It did take some time for my groupmates and me to get accustomed to them, but finally we made it.Exactly some sauce and taste of food make me sick, but I still try many types of dishes, because I believe that food is one part of the expression of a country's culture, people live here like the cuisine and it survives.
Another thing here I learned here was that communication is really important in America,I have tried hard and hard to talk with native Americans and to share my views with others,by this way,my oral English improve quickly, and I also know a point of American is that most of them are friendly and kind, questions are welcomed.Everyone I met is so nice and kind, they are patient and polite, they do help me a lot to know more about the United States, show my deep appreciation to them. Thanks Mike,Hans,Susy,Deric,Eric,Rick and thanks everybody has helped me.
The days here are great,I will add some pictures after I can upload my photos.

I visited the most wonderful zoo in American

I visited the most wonderful zoo in American - the Columbus Zoo.It is a very hot day much like the Wuhan level..

There's a big dinosaur in front of the gate and we all took pictures with him.

Aren't they hot?
I followed Mike to look around the zoo at first,he wanted to see the polar bears. They are in the .I don't know why he want to see the polar bears first, maybe because he looks like a polar bear?Whatever,it's just a joke.

with the deer or horse I don't know

After seeing the polar bears,I walk to feed and touch the little deers, what surprised me is they don't afraid of people and I took many pictures with them.

it is lovely,isn't it?
After that I went to Africa,I followed a directer and he told the visiters some facts about the animals that I learnt it the first time.

the king of the forest
The line is enjoying the sun.He must forget he is the king of the forest.

I can even touch it
There are lots of penguins. They are playing, swimming, eating, talking, they are enjoying the good weather and their hometown.

At last,it is very lucky of me happened to see the animal show. There are lots of animals, like dogs, cats, wild pigs and some kinds of birds and so many animals. The animal shelter trained them and they play a very good show for us.
